Gradually switching to ETFs

Year-to-date, my stock portfolio is down 10%, mainly due to losses in individual stocks. On the contrary, the ETFs in my stock portfolio helped to prevent larger losses.

The losses in individual stocks make me more aware that I am probably not a good stock picker. And as ETFs are more diversified and more systematic, it carries lower risk.

As such, I will continue to dollar-cost-average into diversified ETFs gradually. Over time, my positions in individual stocks will gradually be reduced and my ETF holdings will be larger.

Recently, I read an interview with Value Stock Greek. His answer to Q9) noted the following:

A backtest of low P/E stocks outperforms John Neff, a legendary low P/E investor. A backtest of low price/book stocks outperforms Walter Schloss, a legendary low price/book investor.

If a systematic active ETF can outperform or perform as well as legendary investors, it is best for me to allocate more to ETFs and reduce allocation to individual stocks.
